Rev. Elbert Kim is an ordained Elder in the California-Pacific Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Ordained in 1999, he has served in various churches throughout southern California from San Diego to Ventura County. Elbert’s call to ministry came while he was studying electrical and computer engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. His passion for leading Bible studies and connecting others to the church led him to pursue theological education after college. He received a Master of Divinity at Claremont School of Theology and a Doctor of Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary with a concentration in church leadership. Elbert served on the Board of Ordained Ministry for the past ten years in various leadership roles. He is currently the Candidacy Registrar overseeing the early stages of the ordination process in our California-Pacific Annual Conference.

Elbert is happily married for 26 years to his wife, Grace, a high school math and chemistry teacher. They have two wonderful boys: one at Westlake High School and the other at Brown University studying medicine. Elbert is active in the community. During his year in San Diego, he served as the President of the La Mesa Lions Club and the district chaplain for the 4L-6 San Diego and Imperial Counties. Having received a new appointment to Camarillo United Methodist Church in 2020, he seeks to find ways to connect with the community as our society slowly navigates life during this pandemic.

Camarillo United Methodist Church is a neighborhood church in a small bedroom community between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. However, the church’s ministry extends beyond the borders of Camarillo. Its unique ministry in supplying medical durable equipment for those in need has put this Camarillo church on the map of many hospitals and clinics throughout the county. Patients who cannot afford these healthcare equipment are referred to our campus in need of supplies. An average of 200 individuals are served each month. As the cost of healthcare services and supplies increases, the goal of the project is to expand its ministry to not only providing medical equipment, but supporting the whole person, meeting the needs in caring and support of the whole person – body, mind, and spirit.
